The Nintendo Switch has crossed its zenith
Nintendo has published a new financial report that also allows a look at the sales of the switch. The result: The sought-after handheld console sold worse for the first time than in the previous year. Seems as if the switch has finally reached and crossed its zenith.
sales figures of the Switch go back
For years there has been only one direction for the sales figures for the Nintendo Switch: further up. From year to year, Nintendo was able to sell more and more handheld consoles-especially during the Corona crisis, business was really booming. In the period from April 2020 to March 2021, almost 29 million consoles were brought to the man.
Now, however, the company has been a decline in sales for the first time in the history of the Switch. Between April 2021 and March 2022, only a little more than 23 million Nintendo Switch consoles could be sold -still a proud amount, but still significantly less than in the previous year. In total, over the entire course of time 107.7 million switch consoles have hiked over the counter (source: Nintendo).

Is the switch hype over?
But why is it that the sales figures for the Nintendo Switch are declining? Nintendo submits a first explanation in the official financial report. For example, the company says that the release of Animal Crossing: New Horizons in 2020 boosted switch sales. Such a game was missing in 2021.
In addition, Nintendo openly admits that they too are affected by the continued semiconductor shortage (source: giga). So there were simply production bottlenecks, which also affected the availability of the handheld console. Especially to the starting shot of the OLED model in autumn 2021, potential buyers felt this deficiency. The new switch version was sold out everywhere , the situation only calmed down after a few months.
However, despite the decline in sales of almost 20 percent, the switch is still a real bestseller and is far ahead of the Xbox Series X or the PlayStation 5, which are, however, even more stored by production problems.
It remains to be seen whether Nintendo can increase the sales figures of the Switch again in this fiscal year. We will keep you up to date.
